For Such A Time As This!
“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this.”
I’m currently reading the book of Esther and this verse has got my attention. Just to give you a summary of what’s happening until now. The king has a feast and they get so drunk and lit that the king decides to show off, he requests his kingsmen to bring his wife Queen Vashti to come and be shown off. Queen Vashti refuses the summon. So the king gets angry and decides to kick her out of the palace. Now that the Queen is gone, the king needs another Queen! Here we meet the hero of our story, Esther. Esther was an orphan who lived with his uncle Mordecai. Mordecai was an educated Jew. In this kingdom there’s a guy called Haman who is causing trouble and he wants Mordecai to bow down to him, but Mordecai knows that he only bows to the loving God. So this really angers Haman that he decides to approach the king, he is given authority to do whatever he wants to do. So he decides to kill all the Jews.
This brings us to the verse we are on now, “For such a time as this.” Mordecai informs Esther of the decree that has gone out to kill all the Jews and he tells Esther that she ought to do something. I keep thinking that there was no need for an Esther, the king must have had so many concubines, he could have had one of them! Why the need to get all those young women only for the king to choose Esther.
God always makes provisions for the future. Could it be that you are here for such a time as this? Do you feel that your life is so much more than working and eating and sleeping? I think we are all here to serve a much greater purpose. We all fit in the greatest puzzle of heaven. You see God didn’t need Esther to help deliver the people of Israel just the same way he doesn’t need you and me. God says if you won’t speak then the rocks shall cry out loud, but it is such an honour to serve God, to know that I was created for a greater purpose, to know that if willing, God wants to use me for something great!
I pray that we may find our purpose, that in this time I may know my purpose. For such a time as this, what could you do for God?
